Gutter Repair

Resealing joints, refastening sagging runs, and correcting slope. Gutters that hold water are pulling away from the fascia and rotting it from behind.

What This Covers

Gutters that hold water are already pulling away from the fascia and rotting it from behind. Most gutter repair is about slope and fastening rather than about the gutter itself, and catching it early is the difference between a repair and replacing fascia board.

Signs You Need This Service

  • Standing water in the gutter after rain has stopped
  • A run visibly sagging in the middle
  • Joints dripping or separated
  • Gutter pulling away from the fascia

Materials & Methods

  • Hidden hanger replacement into solid wood
  • Joint resealing with the right sealant for aluminium
  • Slope corrected toward the downspouts

What to Expect

  1. 01Fascia checked behind the gutter, because that is where the real damage hides
  2. 02Slope reset rather than just resealed
  3. 03Honest call on repair versus replacing the run

What it looks like

Why a sagging gutter costs more than it looks

A gutter holding water is already pulling off the fascia. The rot happens behind the gutter where you cannot see it.

Questions

Gutter Repair Questions

My gutter holds water. Is that a problem?

Yes. Standing water means the slope is wrong or a hanger has let go, and the weight is already pulling the gutter off the fascia and rotting the board behind it.

Can a sagging gutter be re-hung?

Usually, if the fascia behind it is still solid. If the wood has gone soft the fascia has to be addressed first or the new hangers will pull out too.

Why do the joints keep dripping?

Because aluminium expands and contracts, and ordinary caulk cannot cope with that movement. Joints need a sealant made for the metal.

Is it cheaper to repair or replace a gutter run?

Repair, until the run has multiple failures. At that point seamless replacement usually costs less than chasing it.

Do you clean gutters as part of a repair?

Yes. There is no way to assess or reseal a gutter that is packed with debris.
